Compatibility Testing is a type of Software testing to check whether your software is capable of running on different hardware, operating systems, applications, network environments or Mobile devices. It’s also a type of Non-Functional testing.
Hardware: We check whether the software is compatible with different hardware configurations.
Operating Systems: We check whether the software is compatible with different Operating Systems like Windows, Unix, Mac OS, etc.
Software: We check whether the developed software is compatible with other software. For example, MS Word application should be compatible with other software like MS Outlook, MS Excel, VBA, etc.
Network: Evaluation of performance of a system in a network with varying parameters such as Bandwidth, Operating speed, Capacity. It also checks application in different networks with all parameters mentioned earlier.
Browser: We check whether the compatibility of the website with different browsers like Firefox, Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, Safari etc.
Devices: We check whether the compatibility of the software with different devices like USB port Devices, Printers and Scanners, Other media devices and Blue tooth.
Mobile: We check whether the software is compatible with different mobile platforms like Android, iOS, Microsoft, etc.
Versions of the software: We check whether the software application is compatible with different versions of the software. For instance, checking Microsoft Word to be compatible with Windows 7, Windows 7 SP1, Windows 7 SP2, Windows 7 SP3, etc.,
Responsive, Compatibility Testing
Responsive testing is the method to validate the web design aimed at crafting sites to provide an optimal viewing experience such as easy reading and navigation with a minimum of resizing, panning, and scrolling across a wide range of devices from desktop computer monitors to mobile phones.
Why Responsive Testing is Required? In the current world we have “N” number of mobile devices, Tabs and Desktops with a various number of screen sizes. Hence the UI Web design should not break when different users viewing the same page or application in the different devices, IPAD or Desktops, etc., Hence Responsive Testing is mandated for the day today IT world.
